âI donât know where she could be Jakari. Weâve looked for her the last almost three years and nothing. Maybe itâs better if you come to grips with the fact something bad happened to her.â I heard a man say as I stood outside Jakariâs door. He told me to stop by and pick up some money.
He was throwing a party in remembrance of the bitch Jaele he was friends with. Sheâs been gone a long time and heâs still searching for her. I wish he let the bitch go already.
âIâm not gonna believe she disappeared and didnât contact anyone; especially Kena or her mom. They were tight as hell.â He was really in denial about her disappearance.
âExactly why she may be gone.â The other voice said.
âUntil I see a body, Jaele is still out there.â
âAâight. Iâll see you tonight.â The man spoke and I made it known that Iâm there.
The guy stepping out the kitchen happened to be his uncle Big Ky. He hated me and my friend Sean. On his way out, he made sure to shoulder check me.
âReally Jakari?â He leaned on the wall laughing.
âWhat you want me to say?â I closed the door and put my things on the table.
âHow about, uncle Ky donât do my girl like that for starters or...â His hand went up.
âDid you not forget, you and your messy ass friend talk shit to his future daughter in law any chance you get? Or the fact you and Sean were overheard laughing about Kena losing the baby. Maybe itâs when you tried to jump her at the grocery store one day but Kyana showed up. Or...â He went on and on.
âOk, I get it Jakari. All Iâm saying is he donât have to shoulder check me like that.â I wrapped my arms around his waist.
âI love you babe.â I said and looked up waiting for him to repeat me. Weâve been together for four years and to this very day, he has never said it to me.
âYea ok. Yo ass want this money.â He took a knot out his pocket and peeled off twenty, 100 dollar bills.
âGet something nice but donât be extra.â He placed the money in my hand and I stared at it to see if he were serious.
âThis ainât enough. My shoes alone cost this price.â I whined.
âTonight, ainât about you Na and stop acting as if you werenât broke before me.â He moved my arms and stepped away. I despised when he reminded me of how broke I used to be.
Yes, I come from the projects but everyone donât need to know that. Looking at me now, no one would ever assume different thatâs why it bothers me when he says it. Like I canât forget because he constantly brings it up.
âReally?â
âReally Na. Every time we have this party, you try and make it about you.â He said walking away and I followed.
âMaybe if you show me some attention I wonât have to.â He stopped and turned.
âWhat kinda attention you searching for Danaisha because I give you a lot.
